Friday Releases

This is a fairly unnecessary addition to the series, but I do think Josh Brolin is going to impress.
Early Grade: B-

It's getting a lot of love, and director Wes Anderson has a different style of movie. It's going to make a big splash in the midst of the generic summer flicks.

I'm not in a big rush to get out and see this one.

Trailer Tuesday

Big time actors in a good looking movie right here!
Early Grade: A-

With these two guys, anything is possible. The story looks hilarious...hopefully the script can match. If nothing else, it'll be worth a couple of bucks to go watch them make complete fools of themselves.

Friday Releases

There are some early mixed reviews for this one, but I think there are going to be some quality laughs.

Trailer Tuesday

It's another danger-filled cop movie that actually looks like the show COPS at times.
Early Grade: B

I'm not sure which is bigger: the brawn or the budget. This will be a movie for pure entertainment value and nothing more.
Early Grade: C

It's got a great cast and an interesting director. Could be a bit of a sleeper.
Early Grade: B+

It's Ben Affleck's first movie back as a director since The Town. If it's anything like that, it's going to be a huge success...I'm just not sold quite yet.

The Avengers Review

Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of sci-fi violence and action throughout, and a mild drug reference
142 min.

Well, the inner nerd in me came out last night as me and a few of my buddies made the 45 min. drive to Portland (the closest IMAX theater) to wait in line for three hours to see the midnight premiere of The Avengers!

The Marvel superhero movies have been building toward this one movie now for several years. I've been extremely excited for this to come out, and I wasn't disappointed at all after the closing scenes last night!

The whole experience was a lot of fun. There were a handful of people who went all out with the costumes (I did the reasonable, lazy thing and went to Target and bought an Avengers shirt), and it was a great atmosphere to be in for a midnight premiere!

The movie is long, almost 2 1/2 hours, but it never drags on, and you're never asking yourself, "when will this be over?" Everything moved smoothly, characters were introduced and developed efficiently, and the action, of course, was unbelievable. The special effects in IMAX made it worth the almost $20 ticket.

A nice cherry on top was the humor. I went in expecting a few wise cracks from Tony Stark toward the other superheroes but nothing too crazy from everyone else. The Avengers had a lot of laughs, and I was pleasantly surprised. I think I can speak for people that have already seen the movie when I say this, but The Hulk really stole the show. He was funny and over-the-top destructive.

The Avengers started the summer movie season off with a BIG bang, and I hope you'll make it out to see this. It doesn't need to be seen in IMAX, but it will definitely improve your viewing pleasure for some extra $$$. This movie has a chance to break some records in the coming weeks! I give The Avengers:

9.5/10

Friday Releases

I know you have two questions for me (Should I go to a new movie this weekend? Are you going to see The Avengers tonight at midnight at the nearest IMAX theater that is 45 minutes away?) and the answer to both is a resounding YES!

So pumped to go see this tonight. It's kicking off the summer movie season in a HUGE way!
